Shop Local with I heart MKT

I heart Market has the largest display of locally produced, designed, manufactured and sourced design ware in KZN, possibly even SA.
So wanna know why you should shop local these holidays?
Around this time last year, we wrote an article for the Moses Mabidha Stadium website on why shop local. See here for more.

"Buying handmade is a personal decision but the impact can have an important roll on effect for the individual crafter, the local economy, the community and the environment. And if that doesn’t sway you – then maybe the feel-good factor will. Buying handmade just makes you feel good!"

If you would like to support our 'I Shop Local' campaign - please feel free to post this button to your Social Media and link us.
See you at the Market!

Green Christmas Wrap

Guest Post by Felicia Dean

Christmas is fast approaching, and with the great emphasise that people are adopting on an eco-friendly lifestyle, Ingrid at ‘Wrap For You’ is truly embracing the message of green living this Christmas.
Her stall at I heart market showcases innovative ideas for wrapping gifts with what most people will have in their homes, from using old books that have seen better days to ribbon off cuts that seem of no use, and with her eye for creativity, she’ll have you a beautifully wrapped gift in no time.

If you’re going eco DIY this Christmas Ingrid’s top tip for you is; nothing is waste, even that little piece of ribbon can be used in wrapping your gift. Go check out her stall this Saturday, bring your gifts to be wrapped or have a shop around the market and Wrap for you will add their special touch!

Wrap for you also do gift-wrapping workshops and anyone is welcome,
an absolute must try!

Please park in Mustering Fields, cross the bridge and take a short stroll past the stadium to join us tomorrow.

folky folk

Seeing though it is the time for giving, we have teamed up with hruki t-shirts and Beanbag Bohemia have decided to give back to you fabulous people this Christmas!

Yes, that's right we have organised 3 bands to be playing from 12 til 2pm this Saturday 19th December at the i heart market.

The line up consists of

Jaspar, a country/folk lady from Minnesota,

US Kids Know, a two piece alternative instrumental band from Joburg and

Thomas Krane, pretty guitars and curious lyrics from Toti.

It'll be the last chance for you to come and buy your Christmas pressies, so come on down and make a day of it.

And please, we are collecting pressies for underprivileged children for the East Coast Radio Toy Story, so bring a child's toy unwrapped and deposit it in the box.

Shop, listen to music, give pressies, eat, drink and celebrate the beginning of the holidays!

crazy crackers!

The clever Nadia has taken a toilet paper roll wrapped it in the pages of a glossy fashion mag and then she fills it with your choice of beautiful treasures from her stall.

It's a perfect green stocking filler!

Oh!
and she is running a little competition too...
you stand a chance to win one of her Lucky Packets - made out of old pattern covers and filled with needles, pins, cotton, all sorts of sewing stuff.

Handmade Rocks!

I stumbled upon this website while i was meant to be doing some work.
We think it is a great initiative and have made the pledge of allegience to buy handmade this Christmas.
You too can make a pledge to buy handmade, just click here...

I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

You may ask "why the hype about buying handmade and local products?"

Because buying local and handmade supports and sustains the little guys and not the multi-national conglomerates. It then gives the seller more money to spend locally. It's a win/win situation that encourages a greater sense of community and makes for interesting story attached to your gift.

We are buying handmade and we think you should too...
and we know the best place to do that...

That's right!
