New trader: Hello Trixie

"Hello Trixie is a custom bridal and evening gown business created by Laurelle Gardiner. It’s joy and passion at its finest: bringing together a fashion designer that loves what she does, and a client, ready to see her dream dress brought to life.
Whether she’s creating wedding gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses or evening gowns the focus is always on gorgeous fabrics, great fit and good fun. Each dress is custom made, which means one of a kind and made to fit. The client and I work together by discussing style ideas and then putting together a final design. Next we go fabric shopping, and then I get to work. We meet up over a number of weeks for fittings, until finally her dress is in her arms, safe and sound, ready for the big day." - Laurelle Gardiner

Cupcake Taste-off!

Mel Hobbs from Take the Cake who has been selling her delicious cupcakes at the market for about 4 years. She is moving on to the greener and colder pastures back of the UK and so we had an opening for another cupcake stall.
Now we get numerous application every month for cupcake vendors and so we dedicated last week, Friday as the day in which we receive cupcake samples and do a comparative tasting.

Cupcakes of all tastes and sizes were delivered and with a small panel of judges, we dug into the treats.

A big thank you to all the cupcake vendors who participated - Cupcake Mom, Baker Belle, Cupsy Cakes and Smith's Bakeshop. As you can imagine, it was a hard decision to make.

We decided that Smith's Bakeshop with their delicate balance of flavours and textures, the use of good quality ingredients and perfect cake to icing ratio were the winners. They also do a savoury butternut and pecan cupcake with sour cream and chive 'icing' topped with BACON JAM! That blew our minds.

Welcome, Smith's Bakeshop to the i heart Market family!

New trader: SNAPSHOT.

SNAPSHOT. was formed with one simple idea in mind - To create and design new and fresh pieces of clothing. Items of high quality that are unique. The kind of stuff that you don't see everyday. We are based in and operate from South Africa's playground - Durban, through our online store.
"On launch, we will be stocking custom designed t-shirts (everyone loves a good tee) and sunglasses. Through growth, we hope to bring in many more designs and types of clothing. All of our tees are semi-handmade and are made with heart. Our designs aim to cover all interests. When you buy a tee from us, we don't want you to look at it as if you're buying a just another t-shirt, instead we want you to look at it as if you're buying a piece of something special. Something of real quality. Something that you know you can keep with you for life  and that is exactly what we aim to produce when we make our tees - Pure quality. We hope you like what you see, because we aim to please you and therefore we try to keep our prices as low as possible while still giving you extraordinary quality. "

New Trader: Noush

We are so very excited to welcome Noush to i heart market!

Manoushka Kraal of Noush hails from Amsterdam originally. Luckily for us, she fell madly in love with a South African man and since then has been based in Durban, developing products with traditional African materials while adding modern and fun details.

"The last two years I have worked as a product designer for a NGO called Africa!Ignite. I developed several successful products during this time, one of them being the 'Langazela' cushion covers. The front panel of the cushions is made out of recycled cornsacks that are embroidered with wool. It was amazing to discover that the sacks create the perfect grid for embroidery."

"I still work with the same crafters as before - almost all of them are based in deep rural KwaZulu-Natal...
I still use the same technique of embroidering but decided to explore other materials as well. My big new love is "the Tartan bag!" I use it in all sorts of different ways... As lampshade, trims on cushion covers or as a bag with a make-over!"

Noush has a stylish fun sense of design and a sharp eye for taking everyday African products and turning them into gorgeous pieces.
Look out for Noush at I heart market this Saturday!

New Trader: Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza is owned by Angela Webster, a stay-at-home-mom to two little boys. Because you can only fit so much into one house, Angela has turned her love for collecting fun and interesting vintage pieces into a business.
The word 'Lollapalooza'  (lol-la-pa-loo-za) means “A thing that is particularly impressive or attractive.”
This range of 'Lollapaloozas' is sourced in Angela’s historically rich home tome of Howick. The aim is to move away from the stereotypical staid and over-priced traditional antique stall and to create a chance for everyone to find that special retro buy at an affordable price. Assisted by her sister, Hannah, Angela sells pretty old porcelain, glassware, EPNS metalware, old brass and copper items and wooden goods. Added to this, they also sell a lovely range of up-cylced pendants, made using piece of broken vintage porcelain. These have proven to be very popular with customers due to the uniqueness of each individual piece.
